A huge subject but here’s a simple introduction that will give you a sense of what it is.
You’ll also get to experience it.
But why do I care?, you may ask.
Because that’s the place from which you will manifest all kinds of wonderful changes in your life!
In fact, it’s the place from which you know that all is well.
It’s a place of perfect and total well-being.
It’s always there and we’re always connected but the goal is to experience it more consciously because that’s what helps us earth its gifts.
That’s what helps us bring them into manifestation.
What Is The Field?
The field can be described scientifically to some degree. Lynne McTaggart wrote a whole, fascinating book about it called The Field (emphasis mine) :
Human beings and all living things are a coalescence of energy in a field of energy connected to every other thing in the world. This pulsating energy field is the central engine of our being and our consciousness, the alpha and the omega of our existence. … We are attached and engaged, indivisible from our world, and our only fundamental truth is our relationship with it. ‘The field,’ as Einstein once succinctly put it, ‘is the only reality’!!
We’ll get more into it in future articles, but for now your subjective experience of its essence is what we want to focus on.
How to “Get There”
In my experience there are many different ways of consciously accessing the field. They all involve subtleties, and they all result in a subtly different experience of it.
Here’s one of my favorites*:
(It helps in the beginning to do this with your eyes closed.)
1. Take a deep breath and as you do so, place your attention at your 3rd-eye area (between your eyebrows).
2. Exhale slowly and as you do so, drop your shoulders.
3. Now as you finish exhaling, immediately drop one more level by moving your attention from your 3rd-eye down to your heart area.
Do you feel the difference? Feel how still and quiet it is? Then you’re “there”. Hold your attention there awhile.
If you can’t tell a difference from your normal state of awareness, then repeat the steps again very slowly. Pay close attention to the subtle goings on “inside”.
Notice that even though you took certain steps, when you’re accessing this state, you’re not actually doing anything.
You’re being.
It’s that simple state of being that we’re after.
Soon we’ll learn a few exercises to do while you’re there to strengthen your ability to hold the state.
But for now, I’m curious to know what you think of all of this, whether you have any questions, and how you did with the exercise. Please do let me know in the comments!

IMHO, practicing a Consciousness Technology — such as this site is about — is the *ultimate* exercise in self-care. However, a talented writer and friend of mine just started a hot new blog, and has her 3rd post in a series today with potent pointers from wise women about their favorite self-care rituals. You can find the first one here (where I’m one of the featured ladies :-)), and be sure to read them all because there are some great giveaways!
I’m also featured in the current edition of Truly Alive, an impressive local holistic magazine which is recently getting its online footing. Read my article Confused? Stuck? Vedic Astrology to the Rescue! — and there’s a special freebie there, too!

Hi Patti,
I remember reading “The Field” and I found it fascinating. I like the exercise that you described and found it to be very centering. I’m looking forward to reading more of your articles having to do with the field and matrix energetics!
Now I’m off to check out the site you mentioned to get some ideas from other women talking about their favorite self-care rituals.
Blessings,
Heather
Hi Heather,
Thanks so much for describing your experience with the exercise! I agree, “centering” is a good word for it. Of course we each have our own experience of it but I feel that too.
I appreciate your coming by and for leaving your comment. Many blessings!
Patti, what a neat practice! I bet just about anyone can dive down into that BEING state and find the riches beneath the surface!
Nice to visit here – I’ve missed reading your stuff! (makes a note to come more often)
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Lisa!
Ditto that note about visiting more often. Your site is looking beautiful these days, and I just do NOT get “around” enough anymore. Sigh.
But no matter. It’s still so nice to see you again. Thanks for coming by and leaving your thoughts. 🙂
