Do you want to blast your mind wide open but still remain practical? Are you finally ready to get out of your rut?

Then E-Squared: Nine Do-It-Yourself Energy Experiments That Prove Your Thoughts Create Your Reality by Pam Grout is the book for you.

You’ll even come away with some useful “tricks” to use in your everyday life for manifesting what you want.

“Seeing with your own two eyes that you can change reality simply by observing it will rewire your brain and divest you from old conditioning. Learning, through scientific experimentation, how deeply you are connected to the field of potentiality will literally set you free.”

~ All quotes by Pam Grout, E-Squared

First, I’m already on-board with the concepts presented in this book. I’ve been practicing and living them for quite some time now.

They really are valid and they really do work.

But I was still attracted to this book because I was curious to see if there was something new here, and above all, I thought it would be fun to do some experiments.

E-Squared did not disappoint.

Fresh Writing Style

I loved Pam’s writing style, it’s so fun and easy to read. She’s down-to-earth and quite funny. Besides being informative and revealing, E-Squared is entertaining and enjoyable.

And for aspiring writers (oui, c’est moi), it’s a superb example of using voice and analogy to get your point across. Very refreshing!

It’s also a great example of making concepts that could be merely theoretical into exercises you can apply in a useful way.

Energy and Consciousness

A lot of the experiments (all simple, easy, and fun) work with energy and the Law of Attraction.

But you also work with some underlying principles that are even more subtle, related to the Zero Point Field (of quantum physics) and consciousness itself.

It’s a nice mixture.

In fact, reality is nothing but waves of possibility that we have “observed” into form.

Logic and Openness

It’s also a perfect balance of left-brained logic and right-brained openness.

For each experiment, Pam offers a premise and the background facts are presented. You’ll enjoy some great quotes and references, along with ideas for further reading.

This is typically followed by some fascinating stories that are offered as anecdotal evidence, and to which you will definitely relate.

She then lays out the experiment for you to perform complete with a lab sheet that summarizes it nicely and which you use to keep yourself on track and note your results.

So fun!

Effectiveness and Validity

I can’t say that every experiment “worked” for me. And some I haven’t taken the time to do fully yet.

But a lot of them worked like a charm and it was fun watching them unfold into my life.

I did notice, though, that even when I didn’t get the results I wanted or expected, doing the experiment was revealing in some way and still worth my time. Usually, it was because I was not focused or consistent enough with it, or because my own energy was muddled in some way. Without the experiments, I wouldn’t have understood that so clearly.

It’s imperative to practice conscious, moment-by-moment awareness. Otherwise, you’re operating out of old encrusted beliefs, beliefs you downloaded before you were five years old. Do you really want a five-year-old running your life?

So in every case I learned some good lessons to apply as I move forward.

E-Squared: Recommended!

I definitely recommend this spirited book. Pam’s natural sparkle uplifts throughout and makes the whole experience a positive one.

I also think it would make a great gift for friends you might have who are “on the fence”. ;-)

If you play with these ideas and exercises like the author suggests, it will open your eyes to some new possibilities — especially if you’re new to this, but even if you’re not.

Dying To Be Me: My Journey from Cancer, to Near Death, to True HealingDying To Be Me by Anita Moorjani is one of my favorite books of all time, and believe me, I’ve read a lot of books.

There is so much more value here than you might expect from a book about a near-death experience (NDE). You will find it not only comforting with regard to death (your own or those you love) but it’s an affirmation of life, and inspiring in general.

Just as important, you’ll find it helpful in many practical ways.

Is This Book for You?

You can benefit from this book if:

  • You or someone you know is facing death
  • You’re grieving the death of a loved one, including a pet
  • You’re facing illness of any kind, serious or otherwise
  • You’re experiencing challenging emotions such as depression or lack of interest in life
  • You want to feel more whole, healthy, and vibrant
  • You simply want to feel better in general … happier, more at peace, more purposeful, etc.
  • You would like an enlightened way to understand or experience life and your place in it

As you can see, I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. And it’s a book that I envision myself reviewing periodically for my own benefit.

How It Unfolds

Anita begins by setting the stage with a brief biography of relevant parts of her life. She describes the experience of becoming incapacitated with terminal cancer, and I love that she describes its unfolding not only on the outside but from “the inside” as well.

But fairly quickly, she jumps right into the NDE. This is the part I want everyone to read who has ever lost anyone to death, or is facing it themselves. The way she describes it is breath-taking and eye-opening. It’s beautiful, actually, and you’ll never forget it.

And just as extraordinary is the explanation of how she then “came back” and proceeded to completely heal. Yes, completely! And how she learned to allow for this “unfolding of miracles” as she puts it.

Life Even Through Death

So it’s not just a book about death and what happens at that moment.

It’s even more a book about life; about who and what you are; about healing and wholeness … and about allowing your whole world to transform.

It’s fascinating to read how you — as your essence — live even through death. And much more freely than you probably are now!

So what does that mean?

How can you live with that same freedom even as you live your life?

Insights and Practices

In her quest to help others through her experience, she shares her thoughts about how you can apply what she’s come to know.

From her expanded understanding of reality, she shares in a way that you can apply in everyday life:

  • Why she got sick and how she healed
  • How to connect with the soul of your magnificence
  • Experiencing profound freedom in your life
  • Trusting the wisdom of the infinite self
  • What it means to Be (allow) vs. Do — and thus experience vast inner peace and a beautiful flow in your life

You’ve really got to read it yourself since there’s so much more to it than I could even put words to; pretty apropos given its expansive nature.

And I’m sure you’ll find your own gems within it, probably new and different insights and practices each time you read it, depending on your perspectives at that time.

It’s got a richness and depth to it that I enjoy applying and know I will for years to come.

Also Recommended …

Soon after reading the book, I came upon her audio Deep Meditation for Healing. Just like the book, I love it. Anita does a beautiful job of taking you into a relaxed, receptive state and reminding you of your magnificence, freedom, and power. You’ll actually feel it and come away more whole and with a new perspective.

It doesn’t replace the book, but it’s an awesome adjunct to it, or it could even stand on its own.

Disclaimer: I received this book for free from Hay House Publishing for review purposes, and true to form, they encourage complete honesty in our reviews. Still — no matter what — you can always rest assured that any reviews on this site reflect my honest evaluation.

Until next time, thanks for reading!

In my last post I talked about what Consciousness Technology is and what I see as its main element, along with some of the things it can be used for.

But just like with other subtle things, its concepts are so impossible to really put into words that sometimes you get a better idea of it if you know what it is not.

The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.
~ Lao Tsu, Tao Te Ching

So let’s go ahead and flip it around for a more complete picture.

What Consciousness Technology Is Not

Of course, it’s not a lot of things, but here’s a list of some of the things you might wonder about.

It’s not energy work.

By the time something is “energy”, it’s already becoming something. It’s further along on that continuum toward material than pure consciousness is.

consciousness -> energy -> manifestation

Even though energy is very subtle, it’s more dense than that extremely subtle field of nothing — and everything … that field of pure potential that we’re concerned with.

It’s not “running energy”.

Moving or “running” energy is part of some holistic energy work modalities such as Reiki or Pranic Healing. Techniques that direct energy to different aspects of the “energy anatomy” such as meridians, chakras, your aura, your emotional body, your physical body, etc. are not what this is about.

It’s not doing something … or doing anything.

There are lots of modalities out there that are very subtle but require some type of activity, steps, or techniques. Again, not Consciousness Technology.

With Consciousness Technology, you truly are a door, not a doer.

It’s not mental or emotional processes such as visualization, Law of Attraction, etc.

Once you start visualizing and intending, you’re unavoidably limiting it, for it has no bounds nor defined form to take.

It’s not anything that takes time.

In fact, even before I do a session, I often recognize that it is already “done”. Often, clients report changes beginning to occur as soon as we’ve scheduled one.

So why schedule time for a session? I used to wonder that too. But for one thing, my Holographic Emergence™ sessions include a little more than just Consciousness Technology. And a lot of people who practice Consciousness Technologies often combine them with other modalities.

The point here is that Consciousness Technologies can have instantaneous results.

It’s not a technique.

No elaborate (or even simple) set of steps is required.

It’s something that’s always available to you and everyone.

Even though I can present ideas and offer steps, in the end they are only pointers to help guide you to discover the “technology” of consciousness for yourself.

Once you’ve discovered it, you interact with it however you see fit.

I could go on and on here so just know this:

It’s not anything that isn’t simply about just holding that space of pure potential where anything is possible. That space of magic and miracles.

But Wait!

It’s not excluding, either.

Now that I’ve told you what it’s not, in a way you can’t exclude those things because Consciousness Technology is inseparable from consciousness which is all-inclusive.

It includes all of life because everything is consciousness.

In this world before words, there is only the real — undivided, ungraspable, already present. ~ Byron Katie, A Thousand Names for Joy

What I’m saying sounds a little like a paradox but it’s not, really.

It’s just that conceptually, the essence of Consciousness Technology is predominantly about accessing pure consciousness, unmanifest.

And it’s important to approach it purely like that, for that is the foundation of how and why it works.

But we are also living in the world of manifestation, where there is duality. There is this, not that.

So it helps to get an idea of what it’s not.

But in practice, we exclude nothing. If something that I listed above “presents itself” as useful, we use it, it’s that simple.

So for example, if you’re doing a Consciousness Technology session and are guided to do Reiki, you just do it! My Holographic Emergence™ sessions often include intuitive impressions that I get due to my being in such an open, receptive state. And although people find them interesting and even helpful, they aren’t a necessary part of Consciousness Technology either.

The way I think of it and the reason it can be helpful for you to allow those things is that it is the potential beginning to manifest through you — of its own accord.

So … I hope I’ve helped clarify a bit more what this crazy new thing called Consciousness Technology is.

If it’s outside the box and a little — or a lot — unbelievable, then chances are, that’s it!

See you next time, when you’ll hear how to access “The Field“.

Don’t you love a bargain?

I do too.

And I love activations, magical thinking, books, and all types of meditation.

They all have the potential to open you to new worlds, just like cracking the egg does for a little hatch-ling.

And oooo, combinations of all of the above are worth getting excited about!

Here are some valuable bargains that have come to my attention lately that I want to share with you.

(And they’re almost upon us so read this now!)

Activations

If you didn’t see my tweets or Facebook postings and haven’t already registered, hop on over to Jo Dunning’s site and sign up for her “Activations of Awakening”.

It’s imminent! Tonight (Weds. ) at 6p PDT.

You write down your intentions for the session ahead of time, and then show up.

It’s different than what I did in my recent Spring Activation, and you can read all about Jo’s on her site.

I did it in Jan. ’11 and it was powerful! I swear, all kinds of things related to my intentions were suddenly on the move. So much so that it was a bit overwhelming for awhile.

Oh, and did I say it’s FREE? Yes!

And speaking of free, check out her brand new Wish Project while you’re there.

Thank you, Jo! :-)

Magical Raven, Beautiful Book

I live in the high desert and over the years here have deeply connected with the ravens and all that Raven implies. S/he is magical, a messenger, and helps bring the subconscious into the light of awareness.

I recently had a friend pass away who was known far and wide as Raven. A gifted poet and otherwise remarkable man who was loved by many. So sad for us left behind without his bright light.

And then what flies into my life unexpectedly but a book about Raven. It’s beautifully written by my sweet and wise friend Christopher Foster of The Happy Seeker. I’m enjoying it little morsel by little morsel and can say that the love with which it obviously was written is almost palpable.

In Christopher’s words:

I’ve written four or five books over the years but am most proud of an animal fable entitled The Raven Who Spoke with God.

It’s a story about integrity and the unconquerable spirit in us all, and I mailed out the first copies on the morning of 9/11. The book was translated into 11 foreign-language editions but then it reached the end of its natural life, or so I thought.

Recently, however, my book has been published in Kindle format.

Oh, and did I say it’s FREE too?

Well, that is if you jump on it this Easter weekend, from this Friday thru Sunday, you can download a free Kindle edition. (And if you don’t have a Kindle it’s a snap to install the free software from Amazon so you can read Kindle books on your PC or Mac.)

You can get it here. And please help spread the word!

And of course it will still be available after this weekend, and well worth the little bit Christopher is asking for it.

Thank you, Christopher! :-)

Meditation System Plus Plus

And finally, someone I know is getting close to releasing an awesome meditation product.

[Update: This meditation product has launched! You can find out more about it here.]

It’s aimed at the busy individual (know anyone like that?) who wants to reawaken to their natural inner balance, their calm connection to spirit, and their body’s natural state of health. It helps awaken intuitive guidance, dreams and aspirations, and it enhances productivity and success.

I was lucky to be one of the reviewers and my gosh! I can’t say enough good things about it.

I was hugely impressed.

It consists of:

  • 1 instruction manual (how to use the system)
  • 3 beautiful (and beautifully written) books
  • 1 workbook, and
  • 20 guided meditations

I’m not normally much of a guided meditation gal, but I have to say, I absolutely loved them! Every day I looked so forward to my guided meditation time.

It seemed to me that it’s almost like 3 offerings in one, although tightly integrated so each supports the others.

It’s like a class on silent meditation, another on using guided meditations, and yet another with step-by-step instruction/exercises for creating your own guided meditations to visualize what it is you want to create in your life.

ON top of that, there are four bonuses included … and they’re BIG bonuses!

And then I found out the asking price. What?! I thought I must have read it wrong.

Surely the price was supposed to have a zero behind it or maybe in the middle.

But no.

Talk about value. It’s worth it for the versatile set of guided meditations alone.

I’m delighted to have an interview with the creator about it that I’ll post here for you once the product’s available.

[Update: It's available! You can find the interview here.]

You’ll hear all about the (amazing!) bonuses and you’ll get a link to a special free download so you can try out a part of the system.

Note that the system is not available quite yet! But in the interview post I’ll include all the details about how to get your hot little hands on it once it’s available. (And just so you know, if I’m smart I’ll be an affiliate by then, because it’s a truly remarkable system and I highly recommend it.)

Thank you, Mystery Person! :-)

That’s it for now. Signing off. Happy Easter, and namasté.

If you take advantage of any of these bargains, please let us know what you thought of them in the comments!

When you live a multidimensional life, you’re always aware that everything’s connected.

Or more accurately, you appreciate that some things are just more dense representations of patterns that exist at a subtle level.

For the past few weeks I’ve noticed striking connections between my emotions and my home.

And seeing connections is helpful because it can provide some guidance as to where to go from where we are.

While I was on a recent trip, my sweet husband decided to surprise me by doing some planned painting. He was going to have it done when I got home as a Valentine’s Day gift to me.

But things went awry. The paint was smeary and maybe bad. It’s a deep color and needed more coats than he thought. Doing the trim was more painstaking than he expected. He found it all discouraging because he so wanted to surprise me, but I assured him it was okay. I could help paint when I got back, in fact would enjoy that.

Discombobulated House

When I got home, everything was in disarray. The large buffet that was against the partially painted wall was in the middle of the living room. A bean bag chair we also keep along that wall was in the middle of my office, along with a large ottoman that we had put there when we moved a new recliner into the living room to try it out.

Since then, rather than get better, things have gotten worse. We’ve had issues with the bed we bought about 10 months ago so we have various beds in various positions now in the bedroom.

Long story short, our house is kind of a mess. It feels like when you’ve just moved. You’re not all the way in, and not all the way out.

Discombobulated Emotions

Interestingly, my emotions have been in a similar state. They’re all over the place, and not neat and tidy like I’d like them. Just like with the heavy furniture, I’m having to live with and adjust to their heaviness and insistence that they make themselves known.

And like the furniture, they’re not tiny little issues, they’re big ones.

But sometimes making changes and improvements, especially big ones, requires living with upheaval for awhile, both inside and “outside”.

It’s helpful and good if you can allow the resulting disarray to be okay; to recognize that it’s a necessary part of the process.

Sticking with that uncertainty, getting the knack of relaxing in the midst of chaos, learning not to panic — this is the spiritual path. Getting the knack of catching ourselves, of gently and compassionately catching ourselves, is the path of the warrior.

~ Pema Chödrön, When Things Fall Apart

On a side-note, I find it interesting that in jyotish, the same house of the horoscope (the 4th) represents both our emotions and our home. They’re our private places. It’s also notable that I’ve got Mars transiting my 4th house right now, and go figure, the wall we are painting is a deep wine red, one of Mars’ colors. Mars is also the spiritual warrior.

Discombobulated Body

It’s no surprise that a few days after arriving home, I started to get a cold. According to Louise Hay in her book You Can Heal Your Life, colds can relate to “Too much going on at once. Mental confusion, disorder”.

I did an Emergence session with that, and got the clear message that as soon as I clear up my mental and emotional turmoil, the house would follow.

Of course, influence moves both directions, but my experience is that creation moves primarily from the more subtle to the more dense, i.e. emotional -> physical.

The state of my home is just a reflection and manifestation of the more subtle energies.

So my attention has been primarily on my emotional state … and even more subtle, on my spiritual state as well.

And if I get right down to it, I have to acknowledge that even these are simply indications of an even deeper pattern at the level of consciousness.

Surrender to Discombobulation

I could push through, pretend I know the answers to some of the emotional dilemmas that have been presenting themselves to me. But that’s not the answer.

Every part of me knows that for now, I need to sit with this. Let it all be a mess.

To just be in the not knowing for now.

Letting there be room for not knowing is the most important thing of all.

Things are always in transition, if we could only realize it. Nothing ever sums itself up in the way that we like to dream about. The off-center, in-between state is an ideal situation, a situation in which we don’t get caught and we can open our hearts and minds beyond limit.

~ Pema Chödrön, When Things Fall Apart

It’s not helpful to just push everything back where it supposedly “belongs”.

The answer is to really connect with my being and from there, examine the root of it all.

And just like with the furniture, I’m asking the fundamental questions:

  • What do I really need?
  • What do I really want?
  • What is working, and what’s not? Just because something used to be good doesn’t mean it still is.
  • Do I really like that? Or have I been settling?
  • What feels right?
  • What matches with my envisioned future, and the direction I see myself moving?
  • What works with my family as well as for me?

At the same time, I’m also practicing Emergence with some of my related patterns of consciousness that aren’t consciously accessible.

Big Disarray for Big Improvement

Even though inconvenient, I’m glad furniture is too big to “sweep under the rug”. That’s the easy way for lots of us sometimes. Oh, I’ll deal with that later. A later that never comes.

Sometimes things need an overhaul. Kind of like a spring cleaning, but even bigger. It’s not always necessary for it to all happen at once, but when it presents itself that way, it behooves us to go with it.

And again, even though inconvenient, I’m appreciating that I do have the time and space to give this examination the attention and depth that it deserves.

Well, truth be told, I’m making the time, because just like with heavy furniture, I feel the import and substantiveness of it.

I’m being patient with it and myself.

I’m living in surrender to what is, these days.

I’m learning to welcome uncertainty.

And even though tumultuous at times, I’m actually enjoying the process.

I know it’s good. And I know it will be worth it.

Today I did a free session for one the the winners of the Solstice drawing I held at the end of December.

She had her choice of a Channeling, a Holographic Emergence Session, or a Jyotish Prasna reading.

She chose a non-interactive channeling. That’s where she sends her questions to me, I record the session of me connecting with her guide(s) to ask the questions and channel the answers, and then I email her the audio.

Always before doing a session with or for a client, I take a few minutes to prepare.

Sometimes I go through a more elaborate ritual of sorts, but today was just whatever came up in the moment.

During the process I got the idea to share today’s few-minute preparation with you … So here it is.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

A few things you’ll hear in this 4-minute audio are:
- Turning on my intuitive “radio”
- Confirmation that things were shifting
- Doing Matrix Energetics, specifically a 2-point
- Setting my intention for the session
- Receiving guidance about an additional intention for this session
- Confirmation that I was ready to go

I also prepare the environment and do an invocation but that’s done in the beginning of the actual channeling session. This is just an example of a pre-session preparation of myself to line up my energy system for the process.

Enjoy.

And of course, as always, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

P.S. If you missed the drawing, why don’t you sign up for my newsletter, get my posts in your feed reader, follow me on twitter, or like LsB on facebook? That way, you’ll always know about my specials and periodic giveaways.

I bet you’ve been more aware over this past week of the positive or negative quality of conversations you’ve been involved in.

I know I have. It’s been kind of fun to notice this again, and how easy it is to get “hijacked” like Sonia says.

[If you're just joining us, some of us are working Sonia Choquette's free on-line course together here, week by week. You're welcome to jump in any time!]

As the week went on, I was reminded that it’s not just conversations I’m in where the tone can be predominantly positive or negative, but lots of other venues can influence us, with or without our conscious awareness.

Ultimately, it’s up to us to maintain our own “space”. Why let filth and pollution blow in from everywhere?

Here’s just a short list of a few influences to pay attention to in this regard:

  • Conversations you overhear
And the “vibes” of the people involved.
  • T.V.
Especially news, but commercials are terrible at sparking fear. Lots of shows have drama galore and all kinds of “unenlightened” attitudes running amok. This can affect you whether you’re watching T.V. yourself or whether it’s just on in the background and you’re not paying attention.
  • Reading materials.
News especially, but even certain novels can seep negativity into you. As with T.V., the ads can dig into all of your insecurities with sharp precision.
  • Songs you listen to.
Especially “love songs” can be real bummers!
  • Internet “talk”.
And again, ads are everywhere, reminding you of your deficiencies. Do you even notice?
  • Text messages & emails
  • The thoughts in your own head.
These can sometimes be the scariest of all!

Do you have anything to add to this list? Did you benefit from paying attention to this idea this week, and how?

Thanks for participating!

Note: This is part B of Week 3. You can find part A here.

Ready for Week 4? Let’s get to it!

Don’t you just love it when a chronic physical issue just goes away?

Me too.

So today I want to share a little *magic* with you that can increase the chances of that happening in your life. Auto-magically.

I hurt my shoulder a few months ago. My chiropractor says it’s my rotator cuff, and that I need to baby it so it can heal. So I’ve been doing that … But I don’t see much improvement. If anything, I keep re-injuring it.

The other day, I decided it’s time I work a little magic with it. That can mean a lot of things to me (as you may know), but in this case I mean that I’m going to practice some Holographic Emergence with it. (And I just finished an astonishing session. Very fun.)

A Little Magic Does the Job

I have every confidence doing this will make a big difference.

Years back I developed bothersome TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint disorder; quite the mouthful). It was painful and had become chronic. After I’d had it for years it was recommended to me that I have surgery. Yikes. No way. I decided to get to work.

I used a combination of Matrix Energetics and Reiki on myself. Amazingly, I didn’t even have to do too many sessions (I did regular Reiki for awhile, maybe about 10 treatments, and about 3 or 4 Matrix sessions, all over about a 4 month period) before I simply forgot about it and later realized that the TMJ was gone. Completely gone! This was a few years ago and it’s never returned.

And so, it’s foolish of me not to do a similar thing with my shoulder.

Synchronicity as Confirmation

But here’s the cool thing. The morning I decided to do this–and to perhaps blog about the process–I was walking Ollie (our sweet old lab) and decided to listen to some Deepak Chopra on my MP3 player.

OMG! Talk about synchronicity! Everything he said was such an affirmation of what I’ve experienced ever since beginning my practice of Matrix Energetics. And to me it said “Do it!” It also said to share it.

It’s one thing to be familiar with the ideas, but when you live them, that’s when the real magic happens.

Some Magical Ideas from Deepak Chopra

So, without further ado, I want to share some of Deepak’s statements with you. They’re from his 5 CD audio set “Magical Mind, Magical Body“, and I’m only 1/2 hr. into it but I can already recommend it. (And I love that he sounds so excited as he talks about these things. It makes for an involved listening experience.)

• Health is not just the absence of a disease, it’s a joyfulness that should be inside us all the time. It’s a state of positive well-being, which is not only physical but emotional and ultimately even psychological and spiritual.

[Note: You can use that simple idea with great effect. Every time you feel frumpy, repeat the idea to yourself that you are well and express well-being and you'll feel an instant shift.]

The body is not a frozen sculpture, it’s a river of energy and information. … You can not step into the same flesh and bones twice.

• You replace 98% of all the items of your body in less than one year.

• There is a deeper reality to the body and that deeper reality is what we want to see because from that deeper reality comes both the mind and the body. Both come from that deeper level of existence.

• A physicist would say: “Our atoms are particles that are moving at lightening speeds around huge empty spaces, they emerge from something which is just a field of pure potentiality, just a field of pure energy, and from that field these particles emerge. They’re fluctuations of energy and information. They emerge from a void. They rebound, collide, and then disintegrate into the void.”

• We have a thinking body. And you can’t imprison the mind in the brain. That’s an old notion, that the mind is confined to the brain. The mind is in every cell of our body.

You can’t even confine the mind to your physical body because it extends beyond your physical body into the whole universe. We are part of a thinking conscious universe that is basically a non-local field of information. We can call the universe a non-local field of information and energy with which this local expression (which we call the physical body) is exchanging energy and information.

• It’s estimated that the average person thinks about 60,000 thoughts a day … and 95% of the thoughts you have today are the ones that you had yesterday. So you keep creating the same patterns that give rise to the same physical expression of the body. If you go to a deeper level, witness the whole process, become conscious of it, then you’d realize that in fact there are choices here.

What we do is we take that chaos of energy soup, we ingest it through our 5 senses, and then we convert that into a physical reality in our own awareness, in our own consciousness. And we do it unconsciously most of the time that results in certain interpretations that are part of a cultural indoctrination.

There’s one part of you that doesn’t change. If you find that part of you that doesn’t change then you’ll be able to cause transformations in that part of you that does change.

[Note: Deepak uses the word "you" but then goes on to complicate it. You can discover that part of you that doesn't change easily and simply. Just visit  John Sherman's website and take advantage of what he so generously offers.]

• Now if I said the mind is omniscient it would sound sort of mystical. That it knows everything, it’s omnipotent, it’s omnipresent, it would sound almost like I’m talking in mystical terms. But in fact, in scientific terms, that’s an accurate statement.

Now once we recognize that — even to have the insight — is to begin to cause transformations in your body. A person’s body is nothing but an expression of all the ideas they have about it.

• If there’s a fluctuation that changes at deeper levels of energy and information then it causes, spontaneously without having to do anything, you don’t have to brainwash yourself about this. You just have to have the insight. And the insight itself causes the changes.

Patterns of Light and Information

So, these are some of the ideas I use — that have become a part of me — as I work with my shoulder. Or more accurately, this pattern of light and information that I perceive as a shoulder. ;-)

Like Deepak says, recognizing this reality helps create a transformation all by itself. It’s what gives us a lot more power than we think we have otherwise.

And therein lies your magic.

So this is the world I get to play in every day.

Want to join me? Or have you already?

(Need some extra magic in your life? Consider booking a Holographic Emergence session.)

Are you aware of what a positive effect you can have on yourself, others, and situations when you take a moment to bless them?

“Personality has power to uplift, power to depress, power to curse, and power to bless.

Paul Harris

I grew up thinking only priests could bless things. At the very least I thought I had to invoke God or a saint to do the actual blessing.

Blessings stuck in my throat for awhile, but now I personally believe that the sacred in us, the sacred that we are, the divinity that we are, is perfectly sufficient to bestow a blessing. In fact, it just might be one of our best activities of all; one that we’re made for.

What is a Blessing?

Technically, bless means to invoke divine favor upon, or to pronounce something as holy. Sometimes it’s used to mean the transfer of energy.

To me, it means a good thought or good wishes. It’s a reverence for something and for its existence; an acknowledgement of its preciousness and its sacredness. It’s the decision to see a person or thing in its perfection or wholeness (holy). It can be bestowing “good vibes” on it or giving it your best.

In fact, you can even be a blessing yourself. (In fact, I’m sure you are. ;-) )

Blessings Lead to Blessings

Last week I was on my way to the dentist. I had butterflies and decided to bless his office. I was introduced to the idea of preparing spaces in Reiki, and then again in Matrix Energetics. And I came across a similar idea recently in a home study course.

So I began blessing the dentist’s office.

I blessed the space, then him, then his assistants, and the receptionist whom I’d talked with on the phone. I blessed the whole clinic and then the whole town.

If I choose to bless another person, I will always end up feeling more blessed.

Marianne Williamson

I live in a remote area and it’s a 50 mile drive through the desert to the dentist’s, which is itself in a remote area.

As I drove (and blessed, and drove some more), I couldn’t help but notice the breathtaking scenery and what a pleasant drive it was.

Pretty soon I was blessing and appreciating all kinds of things: my wonderful little car, my nutritious and tasty blackberry smoothie, the gorgeously puffy clouds above the scrubby juniper landscape of the stark desert with its multi-colored mesas. (Oh, I wish I’d had my camera; you’d get to see a photo of it right now.) I blessed my teeth that have done so much for me, and I blessed the feisty little nerve endings that alerted me that something needed to be taken care of. And I couldn’t forget about me. I was also blessing me.

I soon felt so good that I noticed I’d been automatically catapulted into practicing the Law of Attraction, or rather the Law of Allowing. Hmmmm, maybe this dentist visit won’t be so scary after all.

And come to think of it, that was the last of the frayed (or is it ‘fraid?) nerves.

In the end — and what seemed to me a result of the blessing — the whole appointment was a great experience (and yes, there was even drilling involved, eeek). Everyone was super friendly and competent. I liked the dentist a lot.

Can I prove that it’s because of the blessing? No. But come on.

And even if it wasn’t, it just felt so good. And not just to me, but to everyone I came into contact with that day. I’m sure of it.

We can bless everything and anything. So why not do it?

You Can Bless People and Things

Hands-on blessings can be especially powerful. You can bless:

  • Your food (hands hovering just over it)
  • Cards & letters before you send them
  • Gifts before you give them
  • Pets (and I think they bless us at the same time!)
  • Plants (especially effective toward the roots)
  • Yourself (try some hands-on blessing next time you take a shower)

I’ve known people who, as they pay their bills, send a little blessing to the receiver when they lick the envelope or stamp. Or if you pay online, you can do that when you press “make payment”.

Speaking of online, you can send blessings when you:

  • Send an email
  • Publish a post
  • Make a comment or respond to one
  • Thank someone after a webinar

Of course you can always use them in your regular interactive life (you do have one of those, right?) Try it when you:

  • Thank a sales clerk
  • Say goodnight to your loved ones
  • Dial a phone number, or end a call
  • Pass someone on the street
  • Wave at someone

Oh, the list could go on and on.

Essentially, every and any little act, you can consciously add a blessing.

And when you bless someone you’re upset with or resentful of, the blessing can come back to you tenfold. (I’ll write more about this in a separate post. It’s uncanny what happens.)

You Can Bless Places and Spaces

Just like I did with the dentist’s office, you can bless any space whether you’re there or not.

  • Your bedroom before sleep
  • Your home before a party
  • Anywhere you’re going (store, class, etc.)
  • The road you’ll be driving on
  • Your space and your client’s space before a phone or distance session

You Can Bless Past, Present, & Future

Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so.

Mary Jean Iron

Another way to bless something is to honor it. Like in this quote, how do we bless this day? By appreciating it to the fullest. By being our best we can be.

You can bless certain time periods or events. You can:

  • Bless this moment
  • Bless forward in your day or week, especially if there’s an event you or your loved ones are participating in
  • Bless the results of an upcoming event, whatever they might be
  • Bless past situations, the “good” and the “bad”

Blessings All Around

So you see, the sky’s the limit.

Next time you feel like sharing the joy, send blessings. And if you feel upset, send blessings! Maybe like when I was on my way to the dentist, you’ll be glad you did.

Thanks for reading today. Bless you!

And now, do you want to bless us with your comment? Do you do blessings? With what? How? What results have you noticed? Or anything else!

Ok, maybe you don’t get burps (or maybe you do), but did you know there is often some indication when you are processing or healing something? And just to be clear, I don’t mean signs like running to the wine cabinet or grabbing a bag of potato chips. ;-)

I bet if you start to pay attention, you’ll notice your own version of healing burps.

Last week, my husband and I attended a memorial service for a remarkable woman who contributed greatly to our little mountain community. It was held in the zendo at the nearby Zen Center and the house was packed, as they say.

Partway into the ceremony, I found myself having little burps. Then bigger burps. (Of course I was very discreet, sweet thing that I am.) Just then, I noticed my husband doing the same thing. (Although on a manly scale. Enough said. Just kidding.)

I looked at him and we kind of smiled at each other. Of course we knew what was going on. We were “processing”. Who knows exactly what. Who cares?

It was a good thing.

Examples of Processing

Have you ever paid attention to this? I never used to, but now it’s so common I can’t miss it. I’m not sure if it’s because I process more now or if it’s just that I notice it more now. I think it’s a combination of both.

Especially if you are empathic, you will often do this for others. It happens in situations like that memorial service where processing is going on at many levels. Or it can happen if you’re talking to a friend on the phone who’s going through a rough patch.

I always do this when I do an Emergence Session. It happens during and it happens quite a lot right afterward. It’s kind of like when you jog and then stop — there’s something moving that keeps moving even though you aren’t anymore.

It often happens during my Channeling Sessions too.

When I learned Reiki many years ago, my Reiki Master insisted on having her clients sign something before their session saying they would not get embarrassed and suppress their bodily activities during the session. Burping and farting were encouraged! She did a lot of burping herself, as I recall. (And she was good, what powerful sessions!)

Same with my channeling teacher. Lots of burping.

And it happens a lot in everyday life. I’m not talking about the times when it makes sense to burp because of something you just ate or drank. It comes out of nowhere when processing is obviously going on.

Here are some things you can watch for.

Processing Situations

These vary widely from formal “healing” sessions to everyday activities.

They can be things like:

Sessions with clients
• Consciousness shifting sessions (like Emergence Sessions)
• Healing sessions (like Reiki, massage)
• Counseling situations (like intuitive sessions, channeling sessions, etc.)

In my experience this doesn’t happen so much when I’m “in my head” or very focused (e.g. during a jyotish astrology reading) as when I am in a softer space and more open intuitively. Do you have a different experience?

Contact with loved ones
• Open hearted in-person discussions
• Being near or with someone who’s having difficulties
• Phone calls
• Just thinking of that person

Once you get good at recognizing the signs, you’ll realize that it’s a reliable signal that your loved one is going through something, and you can offer your support, either directly or indirectly.

Random contacts
• Group gatherings (like the memorial service)
• Being in public (this doesn’t happen much for me because I’m usually in my head and relatively less porous)
• Crowds

Your own stuff
• When you’re doing something that is evoking emotion (e.g. writing in a journal, listening to music from when you were a teenager, etc.)
• When you are open intuitively to access personal guidance
• When you are intentionally working through something

Processing Indicators

There’s a range of these and I have had or done most of the following. I find that they each have a somewhat specialized purpose, but in general they are still “processing”.

You will have your own indicators, with one probably being most common.

They will always relate to some kind of movement.

Here are some common ones:

• Burping
• Yawning (very common! can also indicate changing state of consciousness)
• Sighing
• Sweating
• Tummy or intestinal rumbling (more common in healing modalities)
• Farting (ta da, I said it!)(also more common in healing modalities)
• Sudden sleepiness (this can also be an avoidance tactic)
• Sudden heat in your body (this happens a lot when I do Reiki) And believe it or not, this can even be valid for menopausal women. Start to watch what’s going on when you have your hot flash. It can be very revealing.
• Crying (duh)
• Hiccoughs
• A quick shiver or chill (sometimes this acts as a confirmation more than processing, but can be both)

This isn’t an exhaustive list and I’m sure there are more. But I know from experience that these things help process. When I have healing burps, my clients can feel things moving and so can I.

Lots of you work in similar fields as me and have clients of your own. Do you do this? How does yours manifest (if not toooo embarrassing)?

chrysalisToday, I’m thrilled to finally announce a new service I’m offering.

It’s called a Holographic Emergence Session, where I act as a catalyst to facilitate a shift in whatever area of your life you’re wanting to focus on.

It could be an area where you’re feeling stuck, or where you want improvement, or where you want any kind of change.

Any kind of change you want, we can activate it and sometimes make the complete shift right then and there.

When I do these sessions I access a special state (for lack of a better term) and then I open to whatever’s called for in that moment. Almost always my intuitive abilities will come into play too, and we work together (although you don’t have to “do” anything) while

I facilitate the emergence of the whole you into this world,
unencumbered and magnificently expressed.

Thus the name Holographic “Emergence” Sessions. :-)

And the changes I facilitate in your life are directly related to your emergence. Intimately. As you truly emerge into the world, you affect everything. For you don’t stop at your skin. It’s all you.

There is no “out there” out there!

Kinds of Changes

We can shift things in any area of your life. Yes, any area.

It can be related to:

emergence

  • your job
  • your interests and/or vocations
  • money
  • relationships
  • emotions
  • health
  • spirituality
  • your traits or abilities
  • your habits
  • your environment (home, family, co-workers, pets, property, spaces, etc.)
  • issues from the past
  • concerns about the future
  • specific upcoming events
  • spaces you’ll be using/inhabiting

you name it.

Nothing is off-limits.*

I inevitably find during a session that whatever’s being worked on runs like a thread though several areas of life anyway. It’s kind of amazing, actually. Connections might be brought to light that you weren’t even aware of but that suddenly seem obvious.

The Results

Now, what’s interesting about this is it doesn’t guarantee that things will change how you (as a personality) want them to.

But things will change, and for the better — often, even better than you imagined.

It also doesn’t necessarily work on your timetable.

Sometimes things will happen immediately, really obvious things. Sometimes they unfold over time and you may not even recognize that they’re the solution to your problem or issue but in retrospect you see that they were.

So Holographic Emergence Sessions set things in motion. They shift a pattern in consciousness and depending what it is, the change may or may not manifest quickly or in the way you might expect.

How Holographic Emergence Sessions Work

Holographic Emergence Sessions are based on my training in Matrix Energetics, but I’ve adapted Matrix Enegetics to what I do best. And this is as it should be, because Matrix Energetics is adaptable by nature.

It’s not really a technique.

We’re actually using something that’s available to everyone all the time, which is the zero-point-field and consciousness.

It’s just that we’ve learned how to access it to make shifts in our everyday reality. (If you want to get mind-boggled and amazed at the same time, go see what Matrix Energetics is all about.)

I’ve been doing this since 2007, and have done hundreds if not thousands of sessions.

in flight

Most recently, some volunteers from my monthly newsletter list received complementary sessions in exchange for their feedback, to help me hone how to package these.

“I want to update you on what’s been happening. Things are going very well! My energy has definitely shifted, and lots of good stuff is popping up. [Here she talks about 4 new job prospects.] I think your session definitely helped this energy shift happen and so I want to thank you again for your good work.Keep doing what you’re doing, because the world needs more insightful, helpful people like you!”

Since then, a few clients have already had sessions too, and one had several since she noticed such positive changes.

“I had the most incredible healing, Patti, I can’t wait to tell you about it. You’re incredible, I really appreciate what you’ve done for me, I never have been through anything like this.”

Without exception, they had noticeable, positive results.

So I decided it’s time to hang out my shingle.

Because I’m so excited about this, I’m starting with a very affordable fee. I’ll probably raise my rates fairly soon, so if you’re eager to make some positive shifts, now’s the time! Just contact me to schedule your session.

More About Holographic Emergence Sessions

Over time I’ll fill in the blanks, and write more about what you can expect, i.e.

  • How to prepare for a session
  • What happens during a session
  • What you can expect after a session
  • Is there any followup, and why
  • Examples of sessions and/or results

In the meantime, if you have questions or comments about this new service, you’re welcome to put them in the comment section, or contact me directly.

* I get such wonderful clients and I’m sure it’s not even necessary to say this but I’m going to anyway: I don’t work in areas that feel unethical to me. At the same time, I’m not judgemental about how you choose to live your life. That’s probably enough said, and we can discuss specifics if we need to (but I don’t expect it will come up).

If you think your friends might benefit from this service, I’d appreciate it if you’d spread the word. (That’s exactly how it is that I get such wonderful clients!) Thank you!

“I just have not been in a writing “space” but I better get my ass there pretty damn quick. I was all inspired about a post to write tonight or tomorrow but [...] threw me off.

Can I get back on track? Yes. I can. I know how to do that.”

That is taken straight out of my journal/diary from a few days ago.

Have you ever been in a space like that? Where there’s something you want to do, but you’re having a hard time getting into the right frame of mind to do it well?

Okay, so maybe you can push through and get it done, but who wants to operate like that?

Much better to get in harmony with what it is you want to accomplish. It’s more enjoyable that way, and it turns out better besides.

There are quite a lot of tools that can help with that, actually, and I want to tell you about one of them that’s very effective and fun to experiment with.

Brain Entrainment Using Binaural Beats

I wrote about one such tool awhile back, in my binaural beats post. They’re kind of mindless to apply (a very nice feature sometimes) yet are very effective. I like them a lot, and that post links to some sites where you can try them out (for free).

Well, one of my readers/clients read that post and emailed to tell me he uses and likes the binaural beats, but also uses another similar technology too. He’s a lawyer who travels some for his job, is an actor in his spare time, and in his words: “I’ve used this different technology to reduce jet lag, enhance sleep, enhance concentration and memory, etc.”

He’s a very conscientious person so I thought I’d check them out.

Brain Entrainment Using Isochronic Beats

This other technology is isochronic beats, and they’re said to be the most powerful means of brain entrainment available to the general public.

Isochronic Tones

Unlike the binaurals, they don’t require that you listen in stereo. Instead of your brain perceiving the difference in frequency between your left and right ears (as in binaural beats), you’ll hear the pulsing itself — fast or slow depending on which frequency you are entraining your brain to.

For more about brain entrainment in general and the effects of different frequencies, please see my post about binaural beats.

Try Them For Free

I don’t know about you but I love to try things out and sample them before buying.

Here’s a site I found that has a whole lot of different isochronic beats for you to try for free.

They’re all “feature-length”, i.e. not just little snippets but long enough to do whatever it is you want done.

So far, I’ve used these mainly to help me sleep, and for me they work very well and very consistently.

Some of the files you can download are:

  • Nirvana/Sleep – This is the one I use a lot. It’s soothing and it works. 45 min.
  • Sleep – 20 min.
  • Mental Performance 1, 2, and 3.
  • Refresh – 1 hr.
  • Void – Still experimenting with this one… 20 min.
  • I.Q. Increase
  • Creativity – 15 min.
  • Headache relief – one for awake and one for relaxed
  • ESP – 20 min.
  • Anti jet-lag
  • Awake and Alert

He also has whole categories for:

  • Lucid Dreaming
  • Spiritual Tones (e.g. astral projection, chakra balancing, meditation)
  • Recreational (Are you a child of the 60′s too? Check it out in any case!)

The site itself has much more description and lots more audios to try than I’ve given here.

The only drawback to the way the files are listed there is that most don’t indicate which frequency is used. Maybe that’s not important to you, but in case you care, the site author does link to a very detailed frequency list he used when he mapped each frequency to its effects.

So… enjoy! If you try any of these out, I’d love to hear your experience of them. Or any other comments/questions? Please pipe in!

If you enjoyed this post, please subscribe, and share it on Twitter and with your friends. Thank you!

Have you ever found yourself stuck or confused about how to move forward with a project, or feel like it’s lost its vitality altogether?

Then here’s a simple idea that can produce impressive results. I’m experiencing the benefits myself, and they’re pretty amazing!

I’ve been blogging for about 7 months and doing my best to bring what I have to offer to you, but have continued to flail around with one idea or another.

But someone recently reintroduced me to the soul of my blog, and that has made all the difference.

That someone was Hiro Boga, and I discovered her on the top of a red rock mesa in the high desert of New Mexico.

I was climbing around up there with my dog and my little digital audio player, listening to Danielle LaPorte interview Hiro about her new home study course called How to Rule Your World From The Inside Out: The Art Of Inner Leadership.

And when she talked about the Deva or soul of our business, it stopped me in my tracks.

Of course! I knew instantly that that was the element I’d been overlooking.

A New Beginning

Consciously connecting with the Deva of my blog (and business) has been a turning point. And as I continue to walk hand in hand with her, there’s a lot of movement and a lot of progress.

New ideas are popping in left and right. This is nothing new but for the first time these are ideas that I just know are right. They feel different. There’s an energy behind them and a definiteness to them. They are decisions almost more than they are ideas–answers to my questions–and they are wonderful and exciting! They shift the energy I’ve been putting into waffling into energy to move forward confidently.

I also finally know how to present the “face” of Lightspirited Being, and it’s only because we’ve finally met.  (You’ve already seen some of the changes and there are bigger ones on the way.)

I’m led to take steps that seem small but end up yielding substantial rewards.

Besides all that, support continues to turn up everywhere I look.

What Is a Deva

I was already somewhat familiar with Devas from my experience with the Perelandra gardening workbooks and from how I work with certain animals. And my ability to connect with them seems to be helped by knowing how to channel.

But in its simplest form, if you haven’t worked with Devas before, you can think of them as the soul of something. And if you’re in the process of bringing something new into the world (and who isn’t?) then it’s the soul of that.

You can also think of a Deva as the pattern in consciousness or in energetic form that is wanting to manifest into this physical world.

By participating in a particular project, you work in partnership with its Deva. Being conscious of this relationship is powerful.

In her interview, Hiro mentions that a Deva comes complete with all its connections. They already exist as part of its pattern. So as you work with the Deva, you’ll find that support begins to appear where you might least expect it.

How To Connect With a Deva

Here is a simple process for connecting with the Deva of your project.

It’s actually quite natural, and so seamless you may not recognize that you’ve actually made the connection. Typically it’s as soft as a whisper. If you sense the whisper of your Deva: trust it. Trusting it is the hardest part. ;-)

1) Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Relax.

2) Think of your project. Not a lot. Just enough to bring it to mind.

3) Know that it has a Deva, or it wouldn’t be manifesting.

4) Intend to connect with that Deva. Ask that Deva to make itself known to you.

5) “Listen”. Sense. See if you can get a feel for the actual essence or soul of this project. What you sense will likely be very subtle. It won’t knock you over the head, but if you still want more, it can help to recall what first touched you when you initially thought of doing your project.

6) Say hello. Indicate however you’d like that you want to join together to bring this project into the world.

That’s it! Don’t make it more difficult than it needs to be. The Deva wants to connect with you as well and will do its part to help. For you two are partners with the same goal.

Walking Hand in Hand

Every Deva has its own energy and you may even experience it as a personality. So how you relate with it over time will be dependent on that. Play with it!

Remember that you are helping this perfect, beautiful pattern come into being as form, and willingness to be of service to it rather than trying to wrangle it to serve you is the best approach. You’ll find, in the end, it’s the same thing.

But do remember to check in with it from time to time, whenever you think of it. This is what keeps the process fresh and alive.

Notice that once you’re working in partnership, change and movement seem to happen more quickly and enegetically than before.

Ask for guidance and express thanks for the movement that occurs because of your conscious agreement to work together. Whenever you’re at a decision point, ask what is trying to happen. What will further the project?

You will get an answer. Sometimes it will be in the form of knowing, or sometimes it will be a visible sign. But it will present itself to you one way or the other.

Side Note: This post is part of a contest (see below) and I intended for it to be entirely different. But as I sat down to write, I checked in with the Deva of Lightspirited Being and she said “Tell them about me.” That was not what I expected and it made me a little nervous, but I did it anyway. As you see, I’m beginning to trust her nudges.

Update: Yay! I won the contest! Many thanks to Alexis and Hiro for hosting it. As I said in reply to Hiro in the comment section:

However, I’m still a little nervous about the fact that this post is primarily about the Deva and NOT exclusively about what the contest rules required. …  Anyway, I’ve gone with the Deva’s recommendation and trust that whatever the outcome, all is well. :-)

I really think it’s important to not judge the outcome, but the fact that I won by listening to the Deva’s nudges even though my intellect didn’t see the logic of it is very validating of exactly what this post is about! Thank you, Deva!

In any case, I hope you enjoyed it and find it helpful.

Do you have experiences with Devas or working in a similar manner that you’d like to share? Was this process helpful?

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

This post was prompted by Hiro Boga and Alexis Neely. How lucky was I to catch the tweet?

As part of their contest to win Hiro’s home study course How to Rule Your World, I’m to write a post about “Why you are ready to Rule Your World and what will be different for you when you do.”

I’m ready to rule my world because some inner change is needed in order for me to lead and influence on the outside like I envision. I feel compelled to step up to the plate and take my work to a new level, but my inner world includes a few gremlins that trip me up. I’d love to understand how to apply my sovereignty (as per Hiro) to make them my partners in growth instead of my saboteurs. I know doing the course would help me turn the corner, and I think the chapters on intention and dealing with resistance will be especially helpful.

What will be different is that I will contribute to the world with my unique gifts 100%. No more holding back. I will fully birth this offering and if I do it right, the world will be a better place because of it.

I’d be thrilled to win this generous prize and would love to work with Hiro. She’s already inspired and helped me and I’m convinced that she’s part of the support that the Deva is bringing in. She’s got a uniquely helpful blog and some audios that are a treat to listen to. If you don’t know of Hiro yet, then head on over there and check her out.

Have you ever wanted to be more alert, creative, inspired, intuitive, or even more sleepy?

Well, you can! At your very fingertips — literally — lies a powerful tool that can help you with that. It’s a natural method that affects how your brain functions and lets you choose your state of mind.

And it doesn’t require you to take anything or invest huge sums of money in some fancy machine.

It doesn’t even require any extra time or attention on your part except to get it set-up so it can act in the background.

All you need is a way to play and listen to stereo sound, and you’re good to go.

This tool is known as brain entrainment, and you have easy access to it right now; it’s only a few clicks away.

(Oh geez, this sounds like an ad doesn’t it? It’s not! Just this really cool thing I want to share. Read on…)

Easily Enter Your Desired State

A popular use of brain entrainment is to help you either boost or switch over to whatever particular state of mind or state of consciousness is helpful for your task at hand.

From my own personal experience I can confirm that it helps significantly with creativity, energy work, intuition, meditation, and even falling asleep (yes, ahhh!)

A Quick Lesson on Brainwaves

Scientists have determined that when you are in a particular state of mind, most of your brainwaves fall into one particular freqency band corresponding to that state.

Here’s a list of the frequency bands and their matching mind states.

Gamma ( 38 to 90 hz) and  Hyper Gamma (to 100hz)

Harmonizing and unifying thoughts, self awareness and insight, simultaneous processing, produced during hypnotic states.

Beta (12 to 30 hz) – Alert & Analytical

Normal waking consciousness, relaxed yet focused, aware of self and surroundings, analytical, mental processing, peak performance.

Alpha (8 to 12 hz) – Creative & Intuitive

Relaxed state, common in focused meditation, creative, resourceful, calm, at ease, whole brain integration, and beginning of higher levels of awareness.

Theta (4 to 8 hz)  – Integrative

Threshold of subconscious between waking and sleeping, dreaming, access to altered states, intuitive, creative, imaginative, “oneness”, “knowing”, can be drowsy.

Delta (.1 to 3.5 hz)  – Restorative & Healing

Deep, dreamless sleep, non-REM sleep, trance, deep intuition, unconscious.

Flip it Around to Entrain Your Brain

Scientists have also discovered that you can use this idea the other way around.

That is, if you expose your brain to a particular frequency, you will encourage that state of mind to occur. This occurs naturally due to a principle called the frequency following response.

Using brainwave frequencies this way is called brain entrainment.

You’ll also find that if you use a certain entrainment frequency frequently (sorry, couldn’t help it), it’s easier for you to slip into that state at will — naturally, and without any help.

Binaural Beat Audios

The tricky thing is that brainwave frequencies are too low to be detected by the human ear.

To get around this, technicians use the fact that waves are additive and subtractive (remember high school physics?) This enables them to use two sound waves that are within our range of hearing, but whose difference equals the wavelength of the desired brainwave frequency.

You listen to one frequency in one ear, and the other in the other ear, and the end result is that your brain “hears” the difference, which is your desired brain wave frequency.

Because they are created with two separate frequencies, these are known as binaural beats.

You Have Easy Access to These

In recent years these special audios have become easily accessible to us. They are spattered all over the internet.

Here are some sources I have personal experience with.

Dr. Jeffrey Thompson is one of the pioneers in making these available to the general public. He has a whole series of them which, according to the reviews, people find very helpful.

I have a few of his CDs myself and have gotten a lot of use from them. (I use the Gamma or Hyper Gamma sometimes when I want to be in a Matrix Energetics state (for which I’m trained), and I also have the Delta which definitely helps me sleep when I’m having trouble.)

Even more cool is that you can download 30 min. segments of various binaural beats for a mere 99 cents each, and you don’t even have to wait for a CD to arrive. I got one of these to experiment with Alpha (which helps with intuition) and I must say, it works great.

And finally, Jerry Whiting at JetCityOrange has created a range of binaural beat audios that he generously encourages us to download for free! Most are 10 min. long and some are longer. (Surprisingly, these are plenty long to get a sense of the frequency since time stretches out in an odd way when you are listening, especially to the alpha and theta levels.)

He even provides a few that use the Schumann resonance, which is the underlying vibration of Mother Earth. (I really like using these.)

And if that doesn’t do it for you (and if you’re a techie nerd like I am sometimes), there are even programs out there, some of them free, that you can use to create your own.

Further Information

I have learned a lot about all this over the last few years. I have several case studies I’ve done with these audios and more detailed suggestions about various ways to use them to facilitate one state or another.

I’ll be sharing some of that over time — so watch this space :-) .

Note: I’ve since written another post about brain wave entrainment, this time with isochronic beats. You can check it out here. But be careful — it links back to this post so don’t get caught in an endless loop! ;-)

(I’m also developing a product that includes an audio with a guided exercise that uses binaural beats; stay tuned for that!)

Your Turn

In the meantime, if you are at all interested in easily boosting your functioning in any of the areas I mentioned, you may want to give these audios a try. Remember that you either need to be between two stereo speakers for them to work, or using some type of MP3 player with stereo headphones such as an iPod.

Note: These are a pretty powerful way to shift your state of mind, so be sure to use common sense in how and when you use them. For example, you don’t want to use Delta (for sleeping) when you are driving, or you don’t want to use Beta (for alert analytical work) when you want to unwind.

Have you ever used any of these? Do you find them effective? Can you see how these might be useful? Please share!

Jan 122011

As we’ve all learned by now, when it comes to colds and flu, the first line of defense is common sense. It involves not only good hygiene in public especially, but also keeping yourself humming along in a nicely balanced and relatively happy state.

But even with our best efforts, the best and most healthy of us sometimes succumb to the occasional cold, even if it’s only once every 3 or 4 years.

That was me over this last holiday season. I’m so not used to it and don’t have a lot of patience for it.

Here’s how I knocked it out in 4 days flat. (Of course, you don’t need to do all of these, just use whichever ones appeal to you.)

Note: I am only skimming the surface of most of these fields of healing. This is out of necessity else I’d have to write a book. If you look down the list I’m sure there will be some things you can apply right now depending on your level of knowledge, and I do offer a few links for more information.

1) Take homeopathic aconitum napellus

This is always my #1. This is the first action to take once you get the itty-bittiest hint that a cold might be coming on. I am convinced that this is the reason I only get a cold once every 3 or 4 years. This stuff is like magic. You feel the beginning of a symptom, you take an aconitum, no more symptoms. Voilà.

2) Use other homeopathy as indicated

It’s rare, but every now and then the cold gets a good enough hold of you that the aconitum doesn’t do it. At that point you may use a few other homeopathic remedies depending on your symptoms.

For me, I had some post-nasal drip so used kali bich and hydrastis candensis. I also began taking the Schuessler cell salts regularly.

All in all, over the whole 4-day period, as symptoms shifted slightly, I’d also used pulsatilla, influenzinum, occillococcinum, rhus tox, nux vomica, and bryonia alba. (Note: Some of my symptoms were more flu-like than cold, so I was hedging my bets. Since I don’t do flu shots, it could have been either or a combination.)

3) Get adequate vitamins and minerals

Vitamin C and zinc are good to be taking all the time, either in your diet or as supplements. I make doubly sure I am getting these if/when a cold is coming on.

4) Drink water

Drink lots of water! This can’t be overemphasized. On about my 3rd day I forgot about this and could feel the cold getting worse again. As soon as I picked back up on the water intake, the cold began to recede. Amazing stuff.

5) Keep your throat relatively germ-free

This is important early in the process but also good during, since you can actually reinfect yourself even as you recuperate. But the idea is that your nose and throat are often where the virus enters your body and if you can keep these areas clean you are likely wiping out a good number of those troublesome little partiers.

3 effective ways to do this are:

  1. Use a tongue scraper — very satisfying (these are good to use all the time, not just when you feel a cold coming on)
  2. Gargle periodically with water that has a drop of tea tree essential oil in it
  3. Take a zinc lozenge such as a Cold-eeze™.

6) Decongest

If you’ve got head congestion (and who doesn’t when a cold is starting?), there are several things you can do to minimize it.

  • One effective way is to put a drop of tea tree essential oil in a pan of water on the stove and gently breathe in the steam (not too close!)
  • Use 1/2 a drop of ravensara essential oil behind each ear
  • And one of the very best decongestant herbs is mullein. It grows wild around here and I collect/dry it to use, but you can get it at a health-food store. Just make a tea from it and drink it periodically throughout the day. You’ll notice a difference.

7) Drink ginger tea or spicy chai

This is based on the principals of Ayurveda, but a cold in the body is usually a kapha condition, and consuming food or drinks that help increase pitta is helpful. (If you want a reference book about Ayurvedic remedies, Dr. Vasant Lad’s The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Remedies is a good one.)

I like to do this by making some ginger tea; it’s fast and easy. All you do is grate some ginger root into a pan (I use the equivalent of about 1/2 a large carrot) and add 2 qt. of water. Simmer this for about 20 minutes. After it’s almost cool, add a touch of your (wholesome) sweetener of choice and strain it into a pitcher. Drink warm cups of this with soymilk added throughout the day.

The other drink I like is homemade chai. You can find my delicious recipe at the end of this article.

8 ) Stay warm

A cold is called a cold for a reason. It’s important to stay nice and cozy warm while you recover.

Sometimes I will use a heating pad (I know, this isn’t “natural” but it’s easy and I recommend it) but the very best thing is to take a nice hot bath with some epsom salts (they help pull toxins from your body) or a jacuzzi if you have one. Ahhh! This is especially helpful before going to bed.

9) Get a lot of sleep

When I have a cold, my sleep is disturbed. Even when I sleep, it’s lighter than usual and I wake up feeling like I was awake all night. Very odd.

Besides following general guidelines for getting a good night’s sleep, flower essences can help. I like the combination that is the equivalent of the Bach Sleepytime formula: White Chestnut, Rock Rose, Clematis, Impatiens, Cherry Plum, and Star of Bethlehem. I have a spray bottle of it and I also have drops which I put in my water glass near the bathroom sink, to sip if I get up during the night for any reason.

If I’m really not sleeping well at all I will sometimes resort to taking an antihistamine. Your body will not get deep natural sleep that way but in my experience it’s better than nothing so I do keep those on hand. Nothing’s better for healing than a good night’s sleep.

10) Avoid sugar

I had some type of sugar (a cookie or something, I don’t remember) and could immediately feel it in my body. It was as if I got set back to when I was feeling my worst. I suggest avoiding big doses of processed sugar if you can.

Subtle But Effective Remedies

I began by saying I would tell you how I managed to knock my cold out, but to be more precise, that’s not exactly what I was doing.

11) Get the message: You’re out of balance

First, don’t be mad at or feel you have to attack the cold. A better way to think of it is that the cold is a sign that you’re somehow out of balance or you wouldn’t have gotten it. It’s a messenger of sorts. And so, we get the message and take the actions that counteract our particular imbalance.

12) Think about what might have brought it on

I don’t mean that lady who sneezed on you at the grocery store. I’m talking about your life situation, especially some type of disturbance.

For example, this time I had just gotten a box of old diaries out of the closet. There was other old stuff in there that I started going through; old letters, some photos, cards I’d saved, etc. That is exactly when I first felt the cold symptoms. And they weren’t as obvious as sneezing or a sore throat (although they might be for you); it was just something “not right” with my body. But bingo, that was it. So make a note of that as it will be helpful as you move forward.

13) Do affirmations

Louise Hay wrote a book ages ago that I have gotten some great insights and benefit from. It’s called You Can Heal Your Life and toward the back she lists affirmations for each illness. It’s based on what she learned about the source of disease.

I looked up “Colds” and the probable cause she lists for that didn’t resonate with me (Too much going on at once. Mental confusion, disorder. Small hurts. “I get three colds every winter,” type of belief.) I looked up “Post-nasal drip” (yes, this gal gets specific) and that one did (Inner crying. Childish tears. Victim.) The moment I read it I felt an immediate  clutching in my heart area and felt like crying.

So I wrote the affirmation for that one on a piece of paper and repeated it often. Over the next day or so, and as I considered when my symptoms started, I realized that the probable cause for colds was a definite match too.

Here are the two affirmations I did, from her book:

Colds: “I allow my mind to relax and be at peace. Clarity and harmony are within me and around me.”

Post-nasal drip: “I acknowledge and accept that I am the creative power in my world. I now choose to enjoy life.”

As I look at these now, I see they might seem trivial, but if you’re familiar with the power of affirmations, you know they can pack quite a punch by addressing unconscious hang-ups.

14) Write or talk with someone

As you become more aware what emotional state is causing or related to your cold, it’s very good therapy to process that to some degree. I find writing in my journal is extremely enlightening and cathartic. Seeing the issue in black and white helps get your head around it, and solutions flow onto the page as well. I highly recommend it.

15) Use flower essences

I’m especially fond of the Bach Flower Essences. Although there are others I’ve played around with, the Bach set seems complete and sufficient for everything you might run into.

It’s helpful to use whichever essence will support you in healing whatever related emotional issue you’ve uncovered above. If you’re not familiar with these — or even if you are, I think Mechthild Scheffer’s book Bach Flower Therapy is one of the best available and pretty much the only one you need.

Two that I remember using were Crabapple and Rabbitbrush (this one is not Bach but I made it myself years ago and it’s for overwhelm, which matches Louise’s possible cause for colds, above.)

16) Practice Tolle’s method of being present in your body

In Eckhart Tolle’s book The Power of Now, page 103, he gives a process for enlightening your cells with presence.

Essentially, you “flood” your body with consciousness. Close your eyes and choose a part of your body to focus your attention on briefly at first: hands, feet, arms, chest, etc. Feel the energy or life force inside those parts as intensely as you can. Stay with each part for 15 seconds or so. Then let your attention run through your body like a wave a few times, from feet to head and back again. Do that for a minute or two. Then feel the inner body in its totality, as a single field of energy. Be intensely present in every cell of your body. Do this for a few minutes.

This is a preventive tonic for the immune system and can also work as “medicine” for any current disease. It’s powerful. You can actually feel the difference immediately.

Specialized Techniques

If you have access to or are trained in these next/final modalities, I highly recommend you practice them since they may be the most powerful of all.

17) Reiki

I am a Reiki practitioner so I gave myself some Reiki treatments. Full-body is best and in the beginning I also focused on the swollen glands in my neck area. There are also some good books about which areas to focus on for certain ailments.

So here’s a reminder if you know how to do this. And if you don’t, you may consider getting a treatment. These can be done long-distance, even while you’re cozy in your bed.

18) Matrix Energetics

I am trained in Matrix Energetics and so I used this to help shift the imbalance into a more “useful” condition. There’s nothing magic here, even though it’s so surprisingly powerful that it seems like it sometimes, and I will be sharing over time some techniques you can use yourself.

I will also be offering Matrix Energetics related services pretty soon. Stay tuned.

19) Connect with healing guides

I actually have a few particular guides who show up regularly when healing is called for. I always feel a shift as they work with me, sometimes with the condition clearing up completely.

If you know how to connect with your guides, invite them to help you or ask them if they can usher in some other guides who specialize in healing.

If not, then you may want to get a session with someone who can call this help in for you. (The Matrix Energetics related services I just mentioned above will include connecting with guides as well.)

20) Actualism

My husband trained in and practiced something called Actualism lightwork for several decades and he led us through a session related to the Divine Mother energy. Powerful and soothing.

If you have any experience at all with using energy, light or consciousness to heal, now’s a good time to practice it! If you don’t, but would like to, stay tuned to this space since being able to effectively develop those skills is a large part of what I am here to share with you.

My Chai Recipe

These measurements are approximate. You want it to be fairly concentrated.

  • Ginger root (about 1/2 of a large carrot’s worth, grated)
  • Star anise (whole, about 2 T)
  • Cinnamon (1-2 sticks, or 1-2 t powdered)
  • Fennel seed (about 2 t, ground in a pestle)
  • Cardamom seed (about 1 t, ground in a pestle)
  • Black pepper (about 15 twists from a grinder)
  • Clove (about 1 heaping t whole or 1/8 – 1/4 t ground)
  • Nutmeg (about 1/8 t, grated)

Put all ingredients in a pan with about 2 qts. of water. Simmer, covered for about 25 min. After it cools some, strain into a pitcher. Sweeten just a touch with agave nectar or your sweetener of choice. Serve hot (Ayurveda would technically say warm) with soy milk (I use vanilla soymilk). Yum, and so good for you!

Here’s to a happy and healthy winter! (Or summer, as it may be. ;-) )

I know there are lots more natural/vibrational remedies; these are just the ones that popped into my mind over those 4 days. Do you have any favorites you’d like to share?

Do you ever feel like this picture looks? Just a little too “out there”?

Yup, me too.

And I’ll show you a quick way to turn that around.

But first let’s take a look at a primary cause.

(Hint: And it’s not because you have too much to do.)

Who’s Calling the Shots?

In these fascinating days of interconnection, with web surfing, wiki everything, and gadgets galore, rarely a day goes by that we aren’t influenced by other people.

Yet most of our connections have a tiny hidden cost.

Around the holidays especially, with all kinds of parties and family gatherings, there are usually a lot of quiet demands on us. There are tenacious old patterns, unspoken expectations, and assumed obligations, all sneaking a little piece of our attention.

Or maybe like me, you’re learning some new skills and have a lot of “teachers” in your life. We absorb what they tell us like sponges. We watch who does it right and who does it wrong. We listen to what to do and then how to do it better.

Whatever the situation, we’re often so constantly connected that we don’t notice that little pieces of our attention are “out there”, scattered all over the place. And this is true even when the influences are good ones.

Before you know it, the voices of everyone else create a cacophony and added together are much louder than your own. To make matters worse, they don’t all say the same thing, in fact they often say the exact opposite.

They pull you every which way.

If you check in with yourself, you notice you’re scattered, spacey, off balance, and drained. You’re easily distracted. Maybe even little health issues are popping up or you find yourself mindlessly eating all that “bad” stuff. Again.

Aggh!

An Effective Practice

Believe it or not, there’s a quick and easy way to reclaim yourself. It’s something I discovered quite a few years back.

I’ve done this many times and every single time I’m amazed at what a huge difference it makes.

You’ll suddenly be calm and balanced. Collected, centered, and grounded. Best of all you’ll feel congruent and integrated again.

And it’s so simple.

You are going to pull yourself together. Literally.

“This is really America in therapy, people trying to get themselves together and be whole.”
David S. Viscott

A quick study of the words whole, holy, holistic, and health shows that they are all related. No surprise, is it? And holy is “that which must be preserved whole or intact, that cannot be transgressed or violated”.

Sounds pretty good to be whole, doesn’t it?

How to do it

It’s so easy.

1) First of all, decide you want to be all in one place again. Whole. (Speaking of words, did you know “decide” comes from the Latin decidere, to cut off? This is what you are doing when you decide, cutting away from the other options, the distractions.)

Deciding alone is a powerful step.

Do it right now. Can you feel the difference?

2) Next, be aware that all your connections are like tendrils going out from your body and connecting with everyone who’s influencing you.

Take a look at them in your mind’s eye, and who they are connected to. Who is influencing you? Who are the first few people who come to mind? Who are you trying to please? Or learn from? Or who are you trying to influence? Who are you keeping tabs on?

A few will be obvious, and you don’t need to worry about the ones that aren’t.

Spend a minute or so doing this.

3) And finally, just disconnect your tendrils and pull them all back in to yourself.

You can do them one by one, in groups, or all at once — whichever seems most effective for you.

See them all receding back in, so that you are a smooth, egg-shaped energy system.

Then put your focus on you … and take a few moments to notice how soothing and solid that feels.

And you’re done!

Don’t be fooled by how simple and obvious this sounds. It’s really powerful.

When I do this, I immediately feel a shift in my energy. Then for days — and I’m not kidding — I have so much energy I barely know what to do with it all.

I feel clear and uncluttered. I have laser-beam focus without even trying.

You’ll find that you not only feel much better, but you are much more effective at what is important to you. Even when you’ve got lots to do, you’re able to focus calmly on your priorities.

And best of all, you can still work and play with others but your own presence is more concentrated. And your relationships are more healthy again.

If you find the need to do this, I’d love to hear what your results were. Or do it preventively, even better.

Today is the first day of the 5-day Festival of Lights.

It’s a powerful time that we can either let slip by or take a moment to harness so we can direct its energy in a conscious way.

The Festival of Lights, or “Diwali” which means row of lamps, is a major holiday in India. It’s based on the lunar calendar which matches the natural rhythms of life more closely than the more arbitrary dates of our western solar calendar.

Celebrate Your Inner Light

The story behind Diwali varies by region but all agree that it’s a celebration of the victory of good over evil, of light over darkness.

This refers in part to our inner light of consciousness which dispels darkness and ignorance, including the ignorance of us as anything other than the unchanging, immanent reality. It’s the light of our presence shining through our conditioning.

It’s a time of renewal much like Christmas is for Christians.

Diwali’s also a time for honoring Lakshmi, the goddess of fortune, in hopes of increasing prosperity in the upcoming year. The planet Venus is related to Lakshmi and is especially strong right now since it’s retrograde in its own sign of Libra.

Around Diwali time, there are also other holidays in various cultures that are related to the goddess Kali (the destroyer): the Celtic festival Samhain, the Day of the Dead, and Halloween. And like Diwali, they also relate in one way or another to the Moon and its relationship to the Pleiades (aka the Seven Sisters, or Krittika in Vedic astrology) where the Moon is exalted. If you look up in the midnight sky this time of year, you will see that unmistakable constellation directly above.

Tonight is also the the new Moon and this one especially is very auspicious for doing any inner work.

Natural Support to Embrace Light and Prosperity

Over the next 5 days, the planets and stars are supporting us in allowing our light to prevail over darkness in our lives and in welcoming prosperity at the same time.

In addition, the energy of people all over the world attuning to this holiday and celebrating these same gifts further increases the power of these 5 days and nights.

I definitely want to take advantage of this, and thought you might too!

5 Simple Rituals

Here are 5 short but potent rituals you can do to invite light and prosperity to become constant companions in your life.

  1. Get quiet inside. Take a little while to feel the light of your presence glowing within you. Move through your body and feel it everywhere. Notice that the light isn’t confined to your body at all.
  2. Light a candle while inviting the universe to support your light and to help it shine even brighter in the coming year.
  3. Go within and see or feel the light within you that is wanting to shine into this physical world. What form might that take as it expresses itself? See what bubbles up. Whether you know the answer or not, light a candle and acknowledge that you will do what you can to allow that expression of your light as you move forward.
  4. Take a moment to appreciate the abundance that is already yours. If you can, speak it out loud. I am grateful for __________. Or I enjoy _________. Or I love _________. Choose the one that lifts your spirits the most. Do this for at least 3 minutes.
  5. Be grateful that all that you can possibly need is already yours.

You can pick and choose, or do them all. You can do them individually or combine several into one ritual (I especially like numbers 1 and 2 combined). You can do them once or repeat them each night.

And of course, you can (and should) use your own intuition to modify or add to these ideas as you see fit. I’m sure there’s at least oneyou could customize to make it feel even more powerful to you.

And if you have any rituals you’d like to share, please do. Maybe sharing rituals is part of what wants to shine through you!

May you shine brilliantly and may fortune and prosperity be yours now and in the upcoming year. Namasté.

Just because color has no weight doesn’t mean we should underestimate its power to help us balance our lives — or to knock us off balance, for that matter!

Let’s see what kind of energy is connected with each color and which colors you can increase or minimize to influence yourself positively.

Note: This post shows you which colors to use in your environment and when. Lots more ideas about how to use them are offered in last month’s companion post.

The 7 Main Colors and Their Influence

Each of these main colors could easily be a post on its own, but this is intended as an overview. I will describe each one in the simplest of terms and you will see that even the most fundamental understanding can be immediately useful.

Red

Red is about energy: physical & sexual energy. It is very life-promoting. It’s hot. It’s related to primal energy, survival, our tribe, security, survival instincts, and the stage of kundalini that represents potential. It rules the sex glands or gonads.

Red is connected to our first center (or root chakra) near our coccyx at the base of the spine.

Use or increase this color if you want to have a lot of energy for something physical. It’s a great color for sports & exercise.

Too much may make you feel overstimulated, aggressive, and impulsive. Avoid or minimize this color if there is inflammation, fever, or a lot of heat/energy already, or for doing activities that are not physical or require calm. It is not a good color to use prominently in a bedroom, at least not for sleeping ;-) .

Orange

Like red, orange is about physical & sexual energy, but with an emotional element added. Whereas red is primal and more about the individual, this is dual. It’s about partnership, relationship, procreation, making choices, and our ethics. It is related to intuition, especially where others are involved. Orange is warm and provides a grounded creative energy, sociability, courage, and joy.

It rules our hormones plus ovaries in women and our resonance with this can be easily affected by birth control pills and menstrual cycles.

Orange is connected to our 2nd chakra in the abdominal area.

Use or increase this color if you want to socialize, do a combined physical/social activity (e.g. taking a walk with a friend), or do physical creative activities, including those related to earning or using money. This color can help you perceive others’ emotions and gives or receive sexual feelings.

Yellow

Yellow is the color of  sunshine; it’s bright and cheerful and can help us be optimistic. This color activates your personal power center where personality,  ego, and self-esteem reside.

This center is located at your solar plexus (3rd chakra) in your stomach area, which also happens to be your psychic radio.  It increases or activates your ability to be intuitive and as you might guess from the location of its center, to get “gut feelings”. This area receives energy or information that is relevant in the moment.

Yellow can be a powerful color for increasing our intuition, but it can easily increase that ability to where we are bombarded by too much information. More accurately I should say that intuitive information is always available, but we typically filter most of it out. When we wear or are around yellow, we are much more sensitive to it.

Use this color if you want to increase your ability to access information intuitively. Avoid or minimize its use if you are already highly sensitive since it can be very uncomfortable and make you too vulnerable to others’ energy as well. Yellow kitchens can be difficult first thing in the morning for sensitive people.

Green

Green is an interesting color in that it is good for balancing in general. Think how good it feels to be outdoors in a lush green landscape. It relates to fertility, growth, and abundance. It is grounded and reliable, and reflects a calm strength.

Green is connected with our heart center and our heart, lungs, and thymus gland. It can be very healing (or “whole-ing”) as it helps tone down our upper centers (thinking) and our lower centers (physical) and bring them together and into balance.

It relates to love and compassion and thus empathy, as well as a simple friendliness. It is from here that we perceive and project most emotion.

Use this color if you are feeling either overly physical or overly mental; you’ll find it very comforting. Likewise, if you are feeling spacey or ungrounded it helps bring you back to earth.

Because this is such a balancing color on its own, it’s difficult to get too much of it, but do watch it if you find you are over-giving to your own detriment.

Blue

Blue is a cool color that relates to practical mental functions (analytical and logical) and rational choice. It is calming, quiet, serious, and soothing. It cools the physical and can counteract too much red. I recently saw a program about using blue visually to help reduce pain (which is related to heat and the color red) even more effectively than pain medications.

Use this color if you need to focus your attention or to help stay on track with your intentions. Blue is good for mental focus and also for resting. It will help you be alert but not in a physically activated way. It is a natural tranquilizer and actually slows down the heart rate. It can be a good color for a bedroom or study.

Blue is connected with the 5th chakra located near the throat which it rules along with the thyroid gland. This area is the will center as it relates to personal will (vs. higher will).

Indigo

Indigo is related to creative thinking, open mindedness, imagination, and symbolic sight.

It is connected with the 6th center or chakra located near the 3rd eye area (between and slightly above the eyebrows), and also rules the pineal gland.

The frequency of indigo is quite high and subtle. Use this color to help increase your connection with the higher or subtle realms. Whereas yellow is good for intuitive perceptions related to the moment, indigo can be helpful for gaining foresight, or when you are wanting to access your natural clairvoyance.

This color can also help with creative thinking so can be put to good use when you are working on the inspirational stage of creative projects of any kind. (Orange, as mentioned, will help you at the more physical stage of creative projects.)

Too much of this color can cause you to be unrealistic, ungrounded, or simply spaced out. Much emphasis is put on these higher centers these days, but it’s important to remember to keep a balance: head in the skies, but feet on the gound!

Purple

Purple is related to inspiration, spirituality, universal consciousness, and transcendence. It is connected with the 7th center or chakra which is located near the crown of our heads and rules the pituitary or master gland.

Use this color when you are involved in activities where these elements are important such as when you pray or meditate, or when you want to connect or harmonize with your guidance systems.

Just like with indigo, too much of this color can easily cause an imbalance making it difficult to stay grounded and operate in the 3-D physical world. As suggested, keeping a balance between the subtle and the solid is recommended.

A Dose of Black & White

The color white is a combination of all colors, so it can be used whenever you want to help bring yourself back into overall balance. The mantra OM has a similar effect and can be chanted at any time with wonderful balancing results.

On the other hand, black is the absence of all color. It can be used for protection in the sense that it absorbs color/vibrations. So, for example, if you are quite sensitive and will be around a lot of people who have all their various “vibes” going, wearing black can help you not take on their miscellaneous moods and projections.

Colors’ Interplay With You – A Balancing Act

The descriptions I’ve given are guidelines and there will be variation for each individual. Red, for example, will affect you slightly differently than it affects me. Also, different cultures may respond differently to colors than others due to the cultural conditioning of certain colors having special meaning.

Besides the variance each individual color has, there is also variance in the amount of each color which is optimal for each individual. With any/all of us, a few colors will be more prominent than others. This is natural. But there always needs to be a balanced (not necessarily equal) combination of all of them in order for us to function at our best. Athletes, for example, may function optimally with a 30% red balance, but that would be way too much red for someone who has a sedentary desk job requiring calm focus. And note that that athlete still needs some amount of all the other colors as well to function in an effective way.

And I’m sure you can also see why you may operate best with one combination at one time, and need a different balance at another.

So as you apply these ideas, keep in mind that I have provided general  descriptions, and you will want to pay attention to the nuances of how these colors interact with you and what your own, unique balance might be at any given time.

Tips and Ideas for Using This List

If you are feeling uneasy or out of balance in any way, take a look around and see if the corresponding color — the color that causes that dis-ease or imbalance — is playing a dominant role in your environment (including your clothing). Or see if the color that would aid in the way you want to feel is missing altogether. Then either add or subtract the affecting color as appropriate.

When you use these colors, it’s best to use a nice clear color like I’ve shown in the column on the left. That way, the colors can vibrate at their purest resonance.

If it’s difficult to place that color in your environment, you can simply visualize the color clearly for a similar effect. If you do this, it can be healing to see how its corresponding center feels in your body. Can you envision or feel the clear version of the color there? If so, good! That indicates a good amount and quality of that energy in your field.  If not, you can work with that color for awhile, either by placing it in your environment or visualizing it like I just described until it’s easy to get a clear, clean feel of it.

And as already mentioned, I’ve given a few more ideas for how to use these colors here.

Off to the Balance Beam

Okay! Well, this is just the tip of the iceberg but I’m sure is enough for you to play with and see how helpful applying these ideas can be in your life. Here’s to your balance and mine!

I’d love to hear what you think and your experience with this, so please do share with us! Or if you have anything to add to my list of how colors can affect us, let us know that too.

Here is a simple practice that is really powerful and motivating. You are doing something you would be doing anyway, but you’re doing it with an expanded vision that gives far-reaching results. And a surprising bonus is: it actually makes cleaning house fun!

We can all probably agree that our environment feels better when it is decluttered, clean, and organized. Let’s start with the given that this makes sense physically and psychologically, and then take it a step further.

If we approach these clearing activities metaphorically or symbolically, we can benefit even more.

The idea here is that as we declutter, clean, and organize any area of our home (or property, vehicle, office, etc.) we are improving an area of our lives on an even bigger scale than just that physical area of our environment.

What’s in a Dust Bunny?

Everything we are around on a regular basis has energy ties and some type of connection to us, whether we are conscious of it or not. We can envision this as thin threads going from us to everything we own (and some things have big fat ropes!)

As we clean, clear, move, or give any attention at all to these things, the changes reverberate into the larger pattern of our lives that these things are tied to. We can see a correspondence between our life and the location, the article, and/or the activity. In other words, as we clear things, we not only clear that area of our home directly but ALSO an area of our life that’s represented symbolically by that physical area, its contents, or the action we are taking. I would say that this is always true, but especially so if we do it with conscious intent.

Can you see the ramifications of this? How powerful and far reaching this can be in helping us make improvements in all areas of our lives?

And even when things are simply neglected or left to gather dust, never being used or appreciated, those areas of our lives that they relate to are often deteriorating as well. The dust itself is like old, leftover consciousness that begins to smother their vitality. (I am reminded of Dr. Masaru Emoto’s brilliant work with the water crystals, where he showed that plants receiving negative energy fared even better than those that were totally ignored–except for being kept alive, that is. Amazing!)

Next time you clean or declutter, pay attention for the next hours, days, or week and see if you can notice any side-effects in the area of your life that that area might represent.

You Can Decide What You Want to Change

Conversely, if you want to make some changes in a particular area of your life, consider what area of your home or what type of belongings can or do represent that, and then go about cleaning up that physical area. You can consider it intellectually and see if you can get a felt-sense of it too.

Besides resulting in significant and sometimes surprising improvements in that life area, a great side effect of this way of going about clutter-clearing is that it can be a great motivation to clear/clean and even make it more interesting and enjoyable.

You can use your own ideas about how a physical area of your home or a certain activity might tie to an area of your life (get creative, it’s all valid; get intuitive, even better) and/or you can use established systems such as Feng Shui, Vastu, etc. to establish the correlations.

Charge It With Intention

It can be even more powerful to think or even say out loud as you are clearing what it is that you are intending, e.g.

As I mop these dust-bunnies out from under my bed, I am gently removing:
a) the unnoticed debris left from past relationships, or
b) my random worries that have been keeping me awake at night, or
c) the “dust” that indicates my lack of action in reaching out to my husband/wife, or
d) the scary monsters that I now have the courage to see in the light of day

You get the idea. This sounds like a silly example (and maybe it is) but declaring your intentions really does add oompf. Try it out!

Better yet, play with it! Go ahead – let those dust bunnies fly! Turn your feather-duster into a magic wand!

Just be warned: you can’t always predict what new adventure may open up to you as a result! My best personal story is of cleaning out the stuffed full closet in my office and coming away with tons of released energy, a newly redecorated room, and a revived career.

Some Ways You Can Start Today

The connections are endless, and many (or even most) are specific to us as individuals. But here are a few that most of us have in common where you can make a start right away.

  • General decluttering, cleaning, and organizing seems to remove the cobwebs from your energy systems in general, making you much more clear and decisive. It also has the added benefit of making you more alert and intuitive.
  • Do you have lots of old financial files that will never again be of any use? Papers or statements you’re afraid to look at? Give them a spring cleaning and notice how your finances are revived and positively activated.
  • Book shelves are like magic. No sooner do I give away books that I have outgrown, then I am introduced to new areas of fascination and some of the empty spaces begin to come alive with new materials.
  • Sorting through old photos is a powerful way to revive or let go of relationships, including relationships with a “you” of the past. This is often quite therapeutic and can be very healing, even when you didn’t know healing was called for. (And be prepared to possibly hear from some of these people out of the blue.)
  • Thinning out or organizing things that represent mental activities (reading, tracking, planning, figuring) can go a long way to actually help clear your mental clutter such as worrying, judging, criticizing, and over-thinking.
  • Clearing communications areas (such as email or that little address book with phone numbers from two decades ago) can help free up your energy for those relationships that do matter.  Organizing the new or decluttered space can help you be more clear when listening and speaking.
  • Clean and decorate the “helpful people” area of your Feng Shui bagua (a complex topic but the  short form is the south-east direction of a space) to keep that energy moving.
  • Attend to areas that hold vitamins, herbs, medicines, health and personal products and watch your physical health improve.
  • “Thinning out” in general can help you let go of a craving for excess food and you will likewise thin down.
  • Cleaning basements can go to the foundations of who we are and what we stand for, including our subconscious patterns. It can take a brave soul to dive into the “dungeons” but the results can be amazing.
  • Cleaning up that pet cupboard, tossing or giving away those things they’ve outgrown or that are old and worn will revive your relationship with them and improve your pets’ well-being as well.
  • Spiff up the outside of your home or your outdoors areas (or even your car) as representative of how you show yourself to and connect with the world at large. You just may find yourself wanting to have a party!

I first heard of this idea many years ago through Denise Linn on one of her podcasts from her weekly show on Hay House Radio. Since then I have proven it to myself time and again, with positive and enduring results.
